These days it seems kids are spoilt for choice when it comes to toys (at least looking through a toys directory online, it seems this way). When I was a child, my friends and cousins love to play board games. Sometimes monopoly, scrabble, chess, snakes & ladders and boggle. Sometimes I didn’t like to play with them because they were mocking me on wrong spellings or no words at all in the dictionary. Well, what do you expect for an eight year old child? Have all the words spelled correctly or have all words corrected by a dictionary? But when you played the game correctly, they still teased you.
So, what I did in my childhood was that every night I read up on a dictionary and looked for words that would help me for such games. Also, there were times they were playing scrabble, and what I simply watched them play their games to learn from them. When it came to school, I knew that I was getting better with English. Maybe because with them, I’m cannot show myself even if they were my childhood friends and cousins. They were pulling me down, and draining my self confidence. But now, I’ve gained my self confidence and proved them that I’m not the girl they used to make fun off way back then. Why don’t they try to challenge me again with board games today? I will never let them win!
